Course Overview

Here at the Amethyst Sixth Form you can either choose to study the Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity (1 A Level) or the Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity

The qualifications both aim to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills of the principles of Sport and Physical Activity. You will gain an insight into the sector through investigate opportunities for delivering sport and physical activity to a wide range of participants, whether it is to mobilise sedentary people to improve their health and wellbeing or to support regular participants to improve them in  performance and fitness.  You will study a wide range of centre assessed units and examined units on the body systems and the long and short term impacts of sport and physical activity; how sport is organised and the purpose of sports development; health and safety requirements in sport and physical activity; the purpose of, and how to conduct, research in sport and physical activity and how businesses in sport are organised and what success looks like to them.

The course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for progression into employment or further educational opportunities. This is because the qualification provides opportunities for you to focus on the development of personal, learning and thinking skills, functional skills, and wider skills in a sport context. This course would prepare students for jobs in the sports sector including: PE teacher, sports scientist, fitness instructor, lecturer, sports nutritionist, sports physiologist, commentator, sports agent, official, sports development officer, coach, physiotherapist, personal trainer or athlete.

Course Requirements

To enrol for the Sport course you must have the following…

  • Grade 5 in English & Science
  • Level 2 Merit in CNAT Sport/BTEC or Grade 5 at GCSE

Year 1 Summary

 

The following 2 units will be completed:

  • Unit 1: Anatomy & Physiology – external exam.
  • Unit 4: Sports Leadership – internally assessed through assignments.

Year 2 Summary

The following 2 units will be completed:

  • Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being – A task set and marked by Pearson and completed under supervised conditions.
  • Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry – internally assessed through assignments
