Applied Business

The AS and Advanced GCE in Applied Business have been designed to form qualifications which provide knowledge and understanding of this vocational area.

Applied Science

Studying this qualification will enable learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of scientific principles, as well as those scientific practical skills recognised by higher education institutions and employers to be most important.

Art

The OCR A Level Art and Design specifications are designed to encourage learners to develop skills, creativity, imagination and independence based on personal experience, taught skills and critical understanding. Learners show this through their responses to a range of stimuli.

Biology

A-level Biology is a stepping stone to future study, the specifications will support, inspire students, nurture a passion for Biology and lay the groundwork for further study in courses like biological sciences and medicine.

Business

The Extended Certificate is for learners who are interested in learning about the business sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in business-related subjects.

Chemistry

A-level Chemistry is a stepping stone to future study, the specifications will support, inspire students, nurture a passion for Chemistry and lay the groundwork for further study in courses like pharmacy, biochemistry and medicine.

CPLD

Learners will complete 50 hours’ work experience in the sector. Learners taking this qualification will study three mandatory units and one optional unit.

Dance

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 is intended as an applied general qualification for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning.

Design Engineering

A Level Design Engineering prepares students with knowledge and skills that enables them to work in relevant 21st century creative, engineering and manufacturing industries.

Drama

Drama and Theatre studies not only builds your knowledge and practical skills to enable you to go onto study performance at a higher level, it equips you the cognitive, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills that are valued in almost all professions that you will consider.

English Language and Literature

To engage with a range of canonical fiction and non-fiction texts whilst analysing language on a rage of levels; to engage with the contexts and critical theories of writers applying these to analysis of language and meaning.

Food Science and Nutrition

This is an Applied General qualification. This means it is designed primarily to support learners progressing to university. It is mainly designed for those wanting to pursue careers or learning in related areas such as the food industry production.

French

The French course encourages students to enhance their linguistic skills and promote and develop their capacity for critical thinking on the basis of their knowledge and understanding of the language, culture and society of the country or countries where the language is spoken.

Geography

OCR’s A Level in Geography will enable learners to recognise and be able to analyse the complexity of people-environment interactions at all geographical scales, and appreciate how these underpin understanding of some of the key issues facing the world today

Health and Social Care

Students will consider the real impacts to people living with conditions or illnesses such as the social, financial and psychological impacts, not just the signs, symptoms and treatment of faceless conditions or illnesses.

History

When people who study history have investigated a past situation and evaluated the available evidence, they have to communicate their conclusions to others. This means putting together a clear explanation in an organised way and using the evidence to support the points made.

ICT

The course aims are to encourage candidates to create portfolio work for each unit of work and to develop an understanding of the effects of the use of ICT on the data processing and communications systems within and between organisations and individuals.

Law

Studying Law gives you an understanding of the role of Law in today’s society and raises your awareness of the rights and responsibilities of individuals. Effects all aspects of life from rights as a consumer to your rights as an individual in society. 

Maths

Understand mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence, fosters enjoyment and provides a strong foundation for progress to further study.

Music

The RSL Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Music is intended as an applied general qualification for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning.

Photography

A level Sociology offers an engaging and effective introduction to the subject. Students develop knowledge and understanding about society and how sociologists study. The course will help students understand society’s structures, processes and issues in more depth.

Spanish

The Spanish course encourages students to enhance their linguistic skills and promote and develop their capacity for critical thinking on the basis of their knowledge and understanding of the language, culture and society of the country or countries where the language is spoken.

Sport

The course aims to develop knowledge and understanding of sport and it combines well with a large number of subjects and supports entry to higher education courses.

Textiles

To enhance students’ knowledge of the art and design industry as well as showcasing student’s creative flair.
